Coneflower Creamery

Real talk, I am not a religious person, but if I were, ice cream would be my god. I am very passionate about the rivalry (that I have basically fabricated) between the top two Omaha ice cream shops, Ted and Wally’s and eCreamery. (Hint: Ted and Wally’s is the right answer). Now there’s a third shop in the game, Coneflower Creamery. Located in the Blackstone District of Omaha, Coneflower is a perfect mix of Omaha’s current ice cream kings: creative flavors and amazing execution.

Coneflower’s vibe is a lot different than existing Omaha ice cream shops. Exposed brick, clean branding, and handlebar mustache of Founder and “scoopologist” Brian Langbehn. After his time as a pastry chef at 801 Chophouse, he decided to start his own farm-to-table ice cream shop with fellow chef Katie Arant. Fun fact, the coneflower is an actual flower! I thought they conveniently made up the name, but it is a flower that is present in midwestern prairies. Cool!

So it has a cool vibe, but does it have good ice cream? Y E S! First, let’s talk flavors. Coneflower has a great variety of traditional flavors, like Vanilla Bean and cookies and cream. Their other staples include Archetype Coffee (featuring coffee from local Archetype coffee shop) and other signatures like Tart Cherry Crumble and Blackstone Butterbrickle, a toffee/chocolate flavor. They also venture beyond the basics. The first few times I went, I got Lemon Bar/Tart Cherry Crumble and Basil White Chocolate. I had dreams about the Basil White Chocolate, it was so good! They are creative in their flavors but in a very sophisticated way. They appeal mostly to an adult’s palate, as opposed to Ted and Wally’s crazy flavors that use more kid-friendly ingredients. However, as the sophisticated ice cream connoisseur that I am, I have been pleasantly happy with everything i’ve had at Coneflower.

On this visit, I had the Guava & Goat Cheese and the CrackerJack. The Guava & Goat Cheese was a goat cheese flavored ice cream with a swirl of guava paste. I loved these two together! It was a great play off of the uses of guava paste in Spanish and Caribbean food! The CrackerJack was a buttered popcorn flavored ice cream with a swirl of caramel sriracha sauce with peanuts. I mean, they definitely had me at sriracha, but the entire combination was so good! Even though the flavors didn’t mesh, they were individually so amazing that it was no problem!

Denae and Maddie both had ice cream sandwiches. Coneflower features a cookie of the day for the ends of the sandwich and the filling can be any ice cream flavor of your choice. Both looked so good! They both commented that the cookies were the perfect consistency, hard enough to hold the sandwich together and soft enough that they don’t break your teeth! Also, they’re just so pretty!

ice cream sandwiches! quick, eat it before it melts!

Coneflower has wonderful flavors that are done incredibly well. The only drawback is the price. A small serving (which is two small scoops) comes out to about $4.20 with tax, as opposed to $3 for eCreamery and about $3.25 for Ted and Wally’s. Even though the ice cream is great, it is at a higher price point than its competitors. Everything else about Coneflower is fantastic. Great service, great ice cream, and wonderful atmosphere. If you haven’t been here yet, drop literally everything you’re doing and go now!

The Bottom Line

Fantastic. Awesome. Love it. So good. GO!
