PLNT burger

rarely do I go to a restaurant enough to try their whole menu. PLNT burger, however, has stolen my heart ❤ as a not-vegan kinda-pescatarian vegetarian-at-home sometimes-eats-chicken kinda gal….the only thing I definitely don’t eat is beef, and burgers. basically, I love all the elements of a burger, but not the meat. in comes PLNT burger!!

PLNT burger is a vegan burger shop in the DMV area. D.C. celebrity Chef Spike Mendelsohn, of Top Chef fame and founder of Good Stuff eatery, created PLNT burger a couple of years ago. after being introduced to Beyond Meat by the former “teaEO” of HonestTea, Mendelsohn discovered it was miles better than other plant based burgers. he then opened PLNT Burger in partnership with other local entrpeneurs.

the menu at PLNT burger is completely plant-based, so everything is vegan. usually when I scan a restaurant menu, I weed out all the dishes with meats I don’t eat, but not here – the world is my (plant-based) oyster!

when I first tried PLNT burger with my friend Emma, who is vegan, we basically did a big ‘ole menu sampler and tried everything we could. we picked one from each category (except for salads) – Beyond Meat burgers, “chicken” sandwiches, sausage links, sides (fries!), and oat milk soft serve.

plnt burger spread!

as you can see, we got a SPREAD! we tried the crispy herbed fries, the bloomies, the classic sausage, the crispy chik n’ funguy sandiwch, the plnt burger and oat milk soft serve. i know they are most famous for their beyond meat plnt burger, but I wasn’t sure if i’d like it since i have basically never eaten beef before. it wasn’t my favorite – but the chik n’ sandwich totally stole the show. the crispy fried oyster mushroom with the bun and the lettuce mimics a fried chicken sandwich but chewier, absolutely amazing, and I knew i’d quickly become a favorite. while I like the smell of sausage, I felt the sausage with the relish and toppings was a little too much, and didnt give the satisfaction of the sandwich.

the herbed fries were a little bland when we tried them – but to be fair, I am generally not a fan of thick-cut fries. but the bloomies? let me TELL YOU! the bloomin’ onion is one of the most superior foods of all time. deep fried onions, and not only that, every onion petal is fried to perfection? as vegetarians, my family used to go to Texas Roadhouse as a child and get takeout of literally just one giant bloomin onion. i am an ONION GAL! as you can tell by my enthusiasm, these are truly amazing, the little fried onions, one of the best things they sell by far.

overall, we had an amazing first impression of PLNT burger!

in subsequent trips…of which there have been many (many!), i’ve tried many more menu items and been continually impressed. the spicy chick n’ sandwich is similar with a hot sauce coating on the fried oyster mushroom and a slice of vegan pepper jack cheese. this and the original chicken sandwich has really become a go to of mine.

excuse my sad house plant!

their sweet potato fries are the better of the two fries – better flavor and texture compared to the crispy herb fry. and the SAUCES! im a big condiment gal and i just love their bloomie’s sauce. i also appreciate their array of options beyond ketchip, including the maple mustard, sweet chili, and garden herb. saucy 😉

fast food is never really my go to, and mostly because standard fast food is not always veggie/vegan friendly. living a 5 minute walk from a PLNT burger is simply too good of an option! i have the app with notifications on, and they’re simply too nice and send me push notifications for deals, and how can I resist??

one thing to note are the prices. while definitely more expensive than fast food chain restaurants, the range sits somewhere in the D.C. fast casual price range scene, the burgers ranging from $7-9 and the sides ranging from $3-5. the chick’n fun-guy burger is only $4 during Earth Month so grab one now! (im not sponsored….really!) one burger and some fries really does fill me up, but for those with different appetite ranges one sandwich may be too small, so something to keep in mind.

PLNT burger has really become a go-to for me, and I hope you love it too!
