judging joe’s: dip it! [a review of trader joe’s dips]

my grocery trips to trader joe’s every two weeks have truly been the highlight of my quarantine. yes, this means both that I am a sad human and also that I unjustly glorify trader joe’s. i’m ok with it.

it should be common knowledge that trader joes’ dips are by far their best product category. so, here I am providing you with something you with ratings of their dips, hopefully slightly useful for your next trip. here we go!

just rating the ones i’ve actually tried – if y’all have suggestions let me know!

vegan kale cashew and basil pesto

4.5/5. this has really come to replace normal pesto for me. amazing product.

preferred dip vehicle: water crackers with some good cheese, or on pasta!

cashew fiesta dip

.5/5 cones. not good. very bad. weird consistency.

preferred dip vehicle: nothing. don’t buy this.

creamy cauliflower jalapeno dip.

2.5/5. creamy with a little tinge of healthy from the cauliflower before you realize its basically all cheese. needs more jalapeno and spice, its a little on the bland side.

preferred dip vehicle: pretzel chips.

spinach and kale greek yogurt dip.

4.5/5. don’t let the “reduced guilt” marketing scare you from eating half the tub in one sitting as I have….very much done many times.

preferred dip vehicle: pretzel chips or pita chips.

everything but the bagel yogurt dip

5/5. I hate that I like this because I could make it myself SO EASILY but I don’t care! its tangy and refreshing.

preferred dip vehicle: pretzel chips.

dill pickle hummus

4/5. yes I know this is weird but its shockingly really good. hummus with a little bit of tang.

preferred dip vehicle: pita chips or pretzel chips.

bruschetta sauce

4/5. nothing tastes more like summer than this. evokes positive thoughts of wineries, wineries, and wineries.

preferred dip vehicle: water crackers or some good bread + cheese.

tzatiki dip

3.5/5. could be a little thicker and tzatiki is generally better homemade but this is a good falafel/mediterranean night addition.

preferred dip vehicle: pita chips or veggies.

zhoug sauce

3/5. hot hot hot!! only reason for medicre rating is that I am weak and cant handle the spice.

preferred dip vehicle: smol amounts to a veggie bowl for a kick. wouldn’t eat like a salsa.

creamy roasted cauliflower & onion dip

3/5. yeah I know this is in the freezer section but I guess this is still a dip. creamy for sure but needs more spice, kinda bland.

preferred dip vehicle: pita chips or potato chips.

artichoke jalapeno dip

3/5. too thicc and creamy. needs more spice.

preferred dip vehicle: multigrain crackers.

avocado tzatiki dip

3.5/5. another “weird but i like it” kinda thing. more on the yogurty side but a good tzatiki substitute, good thickness.

preferred dip vehicle: trader joe’s elote corn dippers.

organic spicy avocado hummus

4.5/5. this is their best hummus hands down. creamy with the right hint of spice.

preferred dip vehicle: pita chips or pretzel chips

organic buffalo hummus

2.5/5. meh on this, I don’t like the flavor of buffalo with the hummus.

preferred dip vehicle: pita chips or pretzel chips

roasted garlic hummus

2.5/5. basic, not a super complex flavor but its a good crowd pleaser – and cheap!

preferred dip vehicle: pita chips or pretzel chips

green goddess dip

2.5/5. too runny not great. allegedly being discontinued which is a smart move!

preferred dip vehicle: veggies

5 layer black bean dip

2.5/5. nothing special, would rather make this at home.

preferred dip vehicle: tortilla chips
