Brunch brunch brunch! Arguably the dc-dweller’s favorite meal of the week. So what is brunch like in DSM, on a Friday no less? Jordan and I went to Eatery A to find out.
First off, let me say that Friday at 10:00 is a great time to do brunch, seeing as we literally had the whole restaurant to ourselves. This is normally a very lively joint, but normal people have *obligations* and *responsibilities* and *work* on Fridays. We clearly had no trouble getting a reservation.
The brunch menu is a great selection, more widespread than many brunch places. They serve everything from the normal breakfast fare of pancakes to southern classics like chicken and waffles to 15 different wood-fired pizza options. The prices are also very good, brunch fare and pizza ranges from 8.50 to 16.50, most items are on the lower side.
Jordan immediately settled on the Belgian Waffles. I, however, took a solid 5 minutes staring at the Lemon Ricotta Pancakes before finally deciding I need to not get pancakes at yet another place. I ended up getting the Fiery San Marzano Tomatoes, which ended up being an excellent choice.

Jordan liked his dish, but was not impressed. It was a beautiful-looking waffle, but the dish overall felt like it was missing something, a side of fruit or something a lil’ extra, which would have made it perfect.
My dish came in a small cast-iron pan with a side of feta. In the pot was a bed of spicy chickpeas cooked in a flavorful tomato sauce with a soft egg in the middle. It was topped with feta, a lemony yogurt sauce, scallions, and cilantro. On the side was a spiced flatbread, which you dip in the tomato-chickpea mixture.

Overall, the flavors of the dish were very impressive. It was filling and unique. I didn’t think it was that spicy-hot, but they definitely added a lot of spices to the dish. Jordan and I felt that the food was great, but the restaurant could push themselves a little further to make the dishes really perfect.
The Bottom Line
Solid brunch, great service, great menu variety!
